The documentary follows the Dixieland Death Squad upon the streets of Berlin, from squat to street corners, as the extended group of itinerant street musicians busk folk songs with banjos, mandolins, and washboards for beer and life.
As one of the banjo players says, „There are only two types of people in this world who are truly free. The really rich and the really poor. It is very very hard to become filthy rich but it is incredibly easy to become dirt poor. Anybody can do it. You just walk out your door, throw your key in the gutter and leave everything behind. I haven’t had a job since I was 19. I have been to 21 different countries and 3 continents. I have lived on the beach in Columbia and been chased by bulls in Spain and I have approximately 5.50 in my pocket. If it is a game, I am winning….”
