mit: Paulo Chibanga, Michael Fleck, Ivan Kadey
This is the story of the multi-racial punk movement within the recent political and social upheavals experienced in three Southern African countries: South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

PUNK IN AFRICA traces this until-now untold story from its roots in the underground rock music of early 1970s Johannesburg, the first multi-racial punk bands formed in the wake of the Soweto Uprising and the militant anti-apartheid hardcore and post-punk bands of the 1980s to the rise of celebratory African-inspired ska bands which sprang up from Cape Town to Maputo in the democratic era of the 1990s.

Anarchy is chaos. Anarchy is the horror scenario of every decent citizen.
Our protagonists are anarchists. They dream about a free society. They draft their concrete ideas of a different world and try to implement them in their lives. They are convinced that humankind can live without domination, without state – from a present-day perspective this seems to be an absurd idea. But the five protagonists are not alone in their beliefs. Real socialism failed more than 20 years ago and capitalism constitutes as a condition of permanent crisis. Anarchist ideas – in contrast – are spreading in large parts of the bourgeoning social movements.

Deutschland 2013 (engl), 60 min, Regie: Paul Druce
mit: Dixieland Death Squad
The documentary follows the Dixieland Death Squad upon the streets of Berlin, from squat to street corners, as the extended group of itinerant street musicians busk folk songs with banjos, mandolins, and washboards for beer and life.
As one of the banjo players says, „There are only two types of people in this world who are truly free. The really rich and the really poor. It is very very hard to become filthy rich but it is incredibly easy to become dirt poor. Anybody can do it. You just walk out your door, throw your key in the gutter and leave everything behind. I haven’t had a job since I was 19. I have been to 21 different countries and 3 continents. I have lived on the beach in Columbia and been chased by bulls in Spain and I have approximately 5.50 in my pocket. If it is a game, I am winning….”
